16) Enhance a Family's life by Caring for their Donkey

Donkeys are the economic lifeblood of many families in Egypt.  Yet many fail to understand the basics of animal welfare, subjecting their donkeys to abuse, injuries, sickness, and a shortened life-span, thereby jeopardizing the family income.  The Society for the Protection and Welfare of Donkeys in Egypt dispenses veterinary care (treatment and prevention) as well as educates the owners about humane treatment and animal welfare.  Your gift will cover an entire year of veterinary supervision of a donkey and training for the owner.

17) Medical Assistance for the Disabled in Garbage City

Some 40,000 people live in the Mokattam Garbage City, the largest of its kind.  Partly as a result of the unsanitary conditions in which they live, many of them are handicapped or disabled.  A young and enthusiastic team of 35 volunteers, all residents of Garbage City, care on a monthly basis for around 250 people.  They raise some of the needed funds themselves and contribute money from their own small salaries.  But this is not enough to cover the more expensive items such as surgeries, wheelchairs, and medication for chronic cases.  Please help pay for the big ticket items.

18) Well Baby Clinic

Although many childhood illnesses can be prevented by timely intervention, there were until recently no disease prevention or health promotion programs for the newborns of Cairo's large refugee population.  "Refuge Egypt" has stepped in and now organizes a Well Baby Clinic in 4 locations as well as home visits whenever necessary.  The Well Baby Clinic offers for free a simple but comprehensive program of early detection of childhood diseases, inoculations, and basic health education.  Your gift will cover the cost of one baby's immunizations and visits (6 in all) to the Clinic their first year of life.
